now I have a question:  I heard it is always bad form to use your thumb on the frets, I find it is easier to reach E-cord (#1 string on 4-string?) with thumb curled over the top.  Is there any "Bad Form" or is this just a myth?  I thought i

1 USE IT TO MUTE

2 USE IT FRET A BASS NOTE 
AND ITS NOT A BAD THING FOR THOSE USE'S Smile

Carol Kaye also suggests it is bad technique to play the bass one finger per fret.Her recommendations are a 1,2 and 4 fingering. In other words you would play frets 1-4 with fingers 1,2,4 and 4.
