hello rose and welcome to the forumstheres some good finger exercise's featured in the rock house bass dvd'sfor exampleGDAE 4-6 5-7 4-6 5-7 try practicing that on all the strings and eventually your hand will be able to stretch much more i know its

i always leave it in the middle for the maximum reach with those crazy basslines

Watched a Billy Sheehan DVD.He says there is nothing wrong with sliding the hand a little to reach the note.Yes it is a farther reach and I had trouble when I first started.Still have problems once in awhile.Alot has to do with arm position also.Keep your
