THUMB RESTS

Does anyone here actually use one?  Today was my first experience with one, and I didn't like it at all.....just felt odd.  It was this sunburst epiphone bass with one pickup at the bridge, used, going for $119

Well, I don't know if it was homemade or what, but the thumb rest itself was at least as wide and thick as my thumb, and it did not feel comfortable at all.  I think the person who owned the bass must of had very large hands.  I also always use

Now I see what a normal one looks like.....this one was sticking out further then those, above the strings.  It may be the pewrson might have had large hands, I don't know.  From your photos, those ones don't look like they would be uncomfortabl
