John McCarthy- Electric/Acoustic Guitar Songwriter, Creator of The Rock House Method, Co-Owner Rock House In 1982, John founded the Rock House School of Music with a mission to bring one-on-one musical instruction to rock music enthusiasts. The school offers individual lessons in Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards and Vocals, and continues to thrive on the East Coast of the United States with more than 150 students weekly. In 1987, John formed Rock House Publications to further instill his love for music to the masses. That same year he introduced one of the first complete Rock Guitar instruction series on VHS. From 1987-1993, John produced 15 instructional videos under the Rock House brand name including: Acoustic Guitar, Advanced Riffs & Tricks, Rock Vocal and Bass Guitar. A smash hit from the onset, Rock House sold over 600,000 VHS videos worldwide.
John recently put VHS in the past when he and his partner formed Fred Russell Publishing, LLC and introduced the first interactive DVD, web site-supported guitar instruction series for beginner, intermediate and advanced students in both English and Spanish, under the newly formed Rock House Method brand name. Each Rock House DVD offers easy-to-follow instruction and exclusive membership to www.rockhousemethod.com. Through the Members Only section of the site, students can “ Ask the Teacher” questions; visit the “Chat Room” to share ideas; get “Tips and Techniques” ; “ Take Quizzes” to help track progress; download “Backing Tracks” to play along with; and a lot more to help make learning easy. Through its user-friendly web site, Rock House is developing one of the most complete online music communities for both the professional and aspiring musicians to communicate and exchange ideas. The best is yet to come with plans on the horizon for numerous products under the Rock House brand name, as well as plans to develop other brands under the Fred Russell Publishing, LLC umbrella.
A Performer/Guitarist/Vocalist/Songwriter for most of his life John continues to be the front man for his project “ 13 O'clock ” formed in 1997. The group just recorded its second CD. John is lead guitarist for Connecticut 's premier cover band “Lip Lok”, John also performs with a host of celebrities who tour the East Coast. In March 2003, John performed with 2001 Grammy Life Time Achievement Award Winner and legendary guitarist Leo Nocentelli at B.B. Kings club in New York City . John has also performed live with Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas , Al Dimeola and Dee Synder of Twisted Sister fame. His talent has certainly been recognized by the music industry. Gibson Guitars, Guild Acoustic Guitars, Jackson Guitars, ADA Amplifiers, GHS Strings, Roscoe Guitars and Art Electronics have endorsed him at various stages of his career.
But giving back to the art continues to drive John. He organized and instructed at music seminars, sponsored by Gibson Guitar and AKG Microphones, held throughout the Northeast at various colleges. He was also a performer-demonstrator for Applied Research and Development at NAMM (National Association of Music Manufacturers) Trade Shows, and a columnist for Guitar School magazine.
